 Skyline Help
Ok so my gtr33 has been off the road for some time after blowing its back turbo. well took it all apart and while waiting for my new turbos to arrive I thought i would paint the engine etc. took off cam covers and front pulley cover painted and then re fitted with that cas. fitted manifolds new hks turbos and full hks exhaust and 1 huge FMIC but now the car sounds like a subaru the engine just sounds wrong the boost is good well its over boosting not got a controller on it but connected it to the orignal pipe work and it goes right past 1 bar.
Now if my timing was out slightly would that make it sound like a subaru. she ticks over ok but as soon on load or moving off its horrid.
That CAS on front of pulley what is it and should i have removed it ? and re fitted it tried to put it back on on same angle.
any help will be most grateful
Dann

 Re: Skyline Help
The orginal turbos were making a racket like and blew blue smoke on hard acceleration then upon removing seen the cermic blades all chipped and out of balence. I have done a compression check and cylider leakage check all is ok number 3 cylinder was weekest but still well within tolerence.
The sound is not miss firing but a lumpy sound sounds like a fast beating scooby. I am thinking its the cas going to try re timing it tomos got a guide off the skyline owners club.
Also how do i cure over boosting ?
Many thanks
Dann

 Re: Skyline Help
They have HKS ones on.
I have going to try ans sort the timing out today then i will address the boost.
can the new turbos / intercooler affect the ecu in any way? can the ecu cope with the bigger turbos?
Dann

 Re: Skyline Help
ok cool
So how do i excatly plum in a greddy profec B. I have the unit in cockpit attached to pipe to plenum, The control unit in engine bay I have 'T' Pieced in to the hoses that run from the actuators to the metal hard pipe that runs over top of turbos then 't' the two pipes together then into controller the out part. the (in) part i have 'T' peiced into the pipe that runs from induction to the metal pipe.
Hope that is correct
Dann

 Re: Skyline Help
Hmmmm does not seam to work the boost gauge just goes to 1.5bar then i ease off dont want to blow her. No matter what i do with the controller in cockpit low boost high boost etc does not change.
were abouts are you could you come and have a look for me as i am getting stuck. she blows black carbon out when i boot it lol propper clag but she does fly up the road lol

A boost controller will only raise the boost, it cant lower it. Try running the car on actuator pressure and see what boost you get? Paul.

 Re: Skyline Help
Am taking it to rb tomos for them to have a look for me.
I have tried to disconnect the boost controller and plumed them in as normal turbos would and still over boosting. seams as so the car just wants max boost its on a suicide mission haha

Dann hi, That wont run it at actuator pressure though. you need to plumb straight from the vacum hose to the actuator. Paul.

 Re: Skyline Help
check your timing with a timing gun - it should be set to 20degrees for the GTR (15 for gtst) - if you've taken the Crank Angle Sensor off and not placed it on in the correct position then it'll be knocking the ignition timing out and as a result the ECU may be retarding or advancing it (depending on which way the CAS went back on) massively. Nissan at Crosby Park may be able to help out with the timing check but its not difficult to do yourself with the equipment. Also if the car is boosting to 1.5 the current plugs and certainly the stock gtr coilpacks wont hold up. Get some Iridium plugs and a set of splitfire coilpacks - the oem ones are notorious for packing in esp. at higher rev ranges! Hope you got it sorted at RB - if not stay off boost esp. if blowing black smoke out the back end btw, I'm after a set of GTR seats n frames in exchange for a pair of Bride Bucket seats n frames - dunno if you'd be interested. I've had a couple of offers but I'm not driving down to plymouth lol take care ant

 Re: Skyline Help
sounds like coil packs... will run fine on idle but when you load them up it will miss like a cnut, for some reason they can just give up without warning so take a look at them.
