Post More issues with the GTO
Well after the gearbox problem and the little boost issue the car ran fine for a few weeks and now I have another problem (its never ending LOL) I was gettin a loud whinnig sound from the front and the occassional clunk when turning left hand corners from the front passenger side, I took it the garage they inspected everything and told me all seems fine, wasnt best pleased with the outcome because something is clearly wrong.
Well driving the car home last night from work the whine got louder as revs increased so I took it very easy driving home at the last set of lights I stopped at as I was pulling away there was a loud sound of metal grinding on metal and lots of very nasty vibrations straight through the car until the revs reached 3000 then they eased off.
I nursed the car home put it in the garage and thats where it has stayed im thinkin it could be a driveshaft or a CV joint anyone got any further ideas?

Is it related to speed or revs? Does it stop if you put your foot on the clutch??? Sounds like a collapsed wheel bearing to me, but that would be related to speed...

Yeah once you get past 3000 revs or over 30 mph the vibration stops but the whining gets louder as the speed increases.

still not quite following you as 30mph in 6th is just over 1krpm lol. Is it worse when going round a corner?

Yeah lots worse when going round a corner, sounds like something is about to fall off LOL.
From a standstill pulling away there is a massive clunking sound as the wheels rotate and lots of vibration following the sound throughout the whole car as speed builds the vibrations and the clunking stop I have only driven the car a very short distance home when the clunking and vibrations started.
Any checks I can do to confirm what it is?

to check if it's a wheel bearing, Jack the car up and spin the wheel to see if there is any noise. Also see if there is any play in it, rock it backwards and forwards (towards you).

Jacked the car up today and there is no movement in the wheel bearing it turns freely making no funny noises and there is no movement in it when you try to rock it towards you.
So im thinking its the driveshaft/halfshaft.

could well be. You'll have to get the shaft off and check the spline.

Paul.

Im thinkin it is the halfshaft into the gearbox that the spline is knackered on but like you said mate have to take it off to find out.

Cheers for the help
