Post Charlesworth Motors
Afternoon all,

Some people might disagree with me here.

I got a 1990 MR2 Turbo and I heard about these guys from the MR2 only Mag. After much forum browsing and people praising them (mainy girly Mk3 drivers) I decided to go with these guys.

The problem was a piston oil leak. They told me they think the engine had warped as it had overheated that much. Fair enough!

They arranged a truck to come and get it as it wasent drivable and these guys are about half hour drive away (45 mins in her ford KA!)

Here's the good bit - my car was picked up IN FEBRUARY!!!!!!!
You'll never guess where my car is now, oh yeah, they still got it.

I iniatally told them I had a budget of £800 and to work round that, I haven't got a clue when it comes to mechanics, is that enough for new piston rings and head skim??? They said they were doing it between jobs to keep the man hours and cost down.

Soooooo, anyway, 5 months on, and I promise, NOT 1 PHONECALL/UPDATE of any kind - All i got was bullshit when i phoned them.

I was told once that the engine was in and they just needed to get it started. I drove down 2 days later to find my car on a ramp, engine on the floor underneath and a shit load of motorbikes under the ramp, it would take them half a day to get my car down if need be - My car looked like it had'nt been touched for about a month.

My car "will be ready this Saturday" for the past 5 months

Now I'm not one to complain, I the guy that eats around the hair in my dinner if you know what I mean but come on!

Well, I dont know what was wrong with your engine...but if the head was warped then you might get away with a skim....but more likely a new head.

I think 800 quid is a bit steep to just take the head off, skim it and put some piston rings in. couple of days work at most.

Paul.

well..., finally got my car back!

I asked them to MOT it for me, it failed on an indicator bit missing (still works), handbrake cable loose and my reg. plate at the back was cracked/smashed.

They re-MOT'd it for me and it passed! Very Odd!!!!

My indicator is still missing, on the way back from the garage I put my handbrake on on a hill. Let me tell you they haven't sorted that!!! oh and my new reg plate reads WMU as opposed to UMW.

I'm thinking of getting it re- MOT'd and if it fails, reporting them to trading standards or whoever as they passed an MOT which they shouldn't of.
